Modus Vivendi
Performance | 40” | 2019 | Gaivotas6
“Modus Vivendi” is a performance exploring daily routines, driven by real events from Portugal three decades ago. It delves into the tragic consequences of healthcare communication failures, especially for hemophiliac patients. Through a narrative of a family coping with illness, it symbolizes the struggle against futile medical treatments, epitomized by a contaminated coagulation factor. With isolation and resilience as a backdrop, it portrays the quest for identity amidst adversity. Actions dictated by chance mimic life’s unpredictability, revealing the protagonists’ attempt to control their circumstances. These chance actions include selecting between drinking water or vitamin C, engaging in peculiar rituals like eating her blood, and even interacting with audience members.
It underscores the resilience of the human spirit and the inherent capacity to find meaning amidst chaos, ultimately challenging viewers to confront their mortality and embrace the complexities of life.
